Krissa Coleman column: Halloween is just around the corner at the library
Halloween is just around the corner and we are getting ready for all kinds of fun for every age. Our Halloween Extravaganza is Wednesday, Oct. 31 with trick or treating available right after the elementary parade in the afternoon. Starting at 5:30 p.m. we will have hot dogs, lemonade, cider and popcorn available on a first come, first served basis. The Magic Show starts at 6 p.m. and is appropriate for younger children. As always, everything is free for the public so enjoy your local library's festivities on Halloween.
Story Time: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15 a.m. Bring your children ages 4 and under and look forward to lots of laughs and learning. Story time includes: songs, finger play, stories, crafts, sensory bins and a theme each week.
Paws to Read: Julie and Ole be here at the library Oct. 22, 4-6 p.m. Take advantage of this time with a trained therapy dog to help build your child's reading skills.
Job Center: Wednesday, Oct. 17. Come in to get your resume and cover letters updated and brush up on your interviewing skills.
Teen Book Club: Thursday, Oct. 18, seventh hour at the high school. Brittany will be leading the discussion and snacks will be provided. This month they will discuss "People Like Us" by Dana Mele.
Traveling Book Club: Thursday, Oct. 18, 6 p.m., at Phoenix Grill in Baldwin. We will be discussing "The Same Sky" by Amanda Eyre Ward. Come at 6 p.m. to order food if you like and book talk will start about 6:30 p.m. Call your local library to order your book and register for the book club. The group will typically meet the third Thursday of the month.
Tween Book Club: Saturday, Oct. 20, 10-11 a.m. This month they will be discussing "Al Capone Does My Shirts" by Gennifer Choldenko. Snacks will be provided.
Teen Halloween Party: Friday, Oct. 26, 4-6 p.m. This is an event that was planned by our Teen Advisory Board. Join us for games, crafts and a viewing of one of the original monster movies. Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory. Snacks will be provided.
A Novel Idea Book Club: Monday, Oct. 20, 5:30 p.m. at Bobtown Brewhouse. This month's discussion will be on "In the Woods" by Tana French. Discussion usually starts about 6 p.m. Come earlier if you want to order food and drinks.
