New Richmond to host regional dance meet

Deidre Cuno, Jensen Hagen and Erin Earley (l-r) are shown performing for the New Richmond dance team during its performance at halftime of the Tiger girls basketball game last Tuesday.

The New Richmond High School dance team and the New Richmond athletic department will host the 2015 WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches) Dance Team Regional Competition this Saturday at the New Richmond High School gymnasium.

This competition is huge, with 41 teams, nearly 600 athletes and more than 2,000 spectators in attendance. It brings lots of business and new faces to town. This is an opportunity to show off the school facilities and highlight local businesses. This will be the third straight year that New Richmond has hosted the regional competition.

This event is open to the public. Doors open for spectators at 8 a.m. The competition begins at 10 a.m. and admission is $5. It’s a fun day full of incredible talent and strong competition. At the end of the competition, judges will announce which teams have earned a trip to the WACPC state competition on Feb. 1 in La Crosse.

A number of local businesses have made donations for the event. Dance coach Ali Saliny said the success of the event each year is the result of many people throughout the community.

“It just couldn’t happen without the support of our dance team parents, NRHS Athletic Director Casey Eckardt and the dozens of volunteers,” she said.
