The 2016 New Richmond Tennis Open was the largest to date, with major growth being seen in several areas.

The tournament was played on Friday through Sunday at the New Richmond High School and Middle School tennis courts.

The tournament was up to a total of 148 matches this year, the most ever. Several matches were postponed to dates this week because of the rain Sunday morning that threw off the tournament schedule.

One of the biggest areas of growth was in the 10-13 age group. Within that age group there were 10 girls singles entries, five girls doubles, seven boys singles, and 10 parent-child entries.

Another of the areas of growth is in the number of people from outside New Richmond who are competing in the tournament. This was the 16th year of the NR Tennis Open and word seems to spread each year, drawing more entries from outside the community.
