New Richmond's Jon Will to face St. Paul Saints on Saturday

The roster for the St. Croix Valley Baseball League All-Stars has been set for the Killebrew Root Beer Barnstorming game against the St. Paul Saints on Saturday.

Veteran second baseman Jon Will is the representative of the New Richmond Millers for the game. Will is one of the handful of SCVBL players who are 40 or over, yet he ranks among the Millers’ leading hitters every season.

This season is the Saints’ 25th anniversary and they are celebrating by kicking off the season with an exhibition game against the SCVBL All-Stars at First National Bank of River Falls Field in River Falls. The SCVBL all-star team will be made up of players from 13 local amateur teams: the host River Falls Fighting Fish, Hudson River Rats, Menomonie Eagles, New Richmond Millers, Osceola Braves, St. Croix Falls Bandits, Spring Valley Hawks, Bay City Bombers, Ellsworth Hubbers, Hager City Skeeters, Plum City Blues, Prescott Pirates and Elmwood Expos.

This will be the ninth consecutive year the St. Paul Saints will stay close to home to play an exhibition road game, but the first time they will play in Wisconsin.

The May 13 game will serve as a fundraiser for First National Bank of River Falls Field, which hosts more than 100 amateur, high school, legion and youth baseball games each year.

The Saints will be bringing the “Saints Experience,” which has made the independent minor league baseball team’s games a Twin Cities favorite for the last 25 years. Two live pigs, plus their two-legged mascot “Mudonna,” will be on hand and game-day programs and t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Killebrew Root Beer, sponsor of the Saints barnstorming games each season, has donated a Harmon Killebrew autographed Rawlings baseball, one of the last remaining signed by the former Minnesota Twins Hall of Famer, as well as a Frank Viola autographed Rawlings baseball and a Rod Carew autographed Louisville Slugger baseball bat, as feature items for a silent auction.

Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. May 13 with the SCVBL All-Stars taking batting practice at 1 p.m. and the Saints at 1:45 p.m. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
