Thursday's Results: New Richmond soccer, SCC volleyball advance

The New Richmond boys soccer and St. Croix Central volleyball teams had successful nights in the WIAA playoffs on Thursday, but the New Richmond volleyball team didn't fare as well.

The New Richmond soccer team opened Division 2 play with a 5-0 win over Tomah under the lights at the New Richmond High School field. AJ Johnson scored the first two goals for the Tigers. Kyler Bengston, Mason Marek and Ty Johnson also scored for the Tigers. New Richmond will play in the second round of regionals on Saturday. The Tigers will host Onalaska at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Onalaska was an 8-1 winner over La Crosse Central on Thursday.

The St. Croix Central volleyball team won in a wildly intense match with Osceola on Thursday. All three games were battles to the finish. Central won the opening two games 25-21, but couldn't finish the third game until the score reached 28-26. Central will play at home again at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the regional final. The Panthers will face Ellsworth, which defeated Altoona in three games on Thursday.

The New Richmond volleyball team was defeated in the opening round of Division 1 action at D.C. Everest. The Tigers lost by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-7. This ends New Richmond's season.
