Tigers soccer tops Vikings, advances to sectional finals Saturday

New Richmond and Holmen battled in cold and wet conditions at New Richmond High School in the WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinals on Thursday.

The No. 1 seeded New Richmond Tiger boys soccer team scored three goals in both halves to top the visiting No. 2 Holmen Vikings 6-2 to advance to Saturday's Division 2 sectional final at 4 p.m. in Merrill. The game was played at the New Richmond High School soccer field on Thursday, Oct. 26. 

The Tigers scored 11:32 into the first half and were able to go up 2-0 at the 18:44 mark of the first half. New Richmond rounded out its first half scoring at the 35:28 mark to go up 3-0. Holmen came back to notch its first goal of the game at 43:29. 

The second half opened with the Tigers scoring just over a minute and half into the half to take a 4-1 lead. New Richmond went up 5-1 at the 57:13 mark, and again at the 62:38 mark, to go up 6-1. Holmen made its first major push of the half to score its second goal of the game three minutes later. 

New Richmond will play the winner of No. 1 seed Pulaski and No. 2 Wausau East, which was played Thursday night in Pulaski.
