St. Croix Central volleyball defeated in sectional championship match

The St. Croix Central volleyball team was honored after finishing second in the sectional tournament.

The St. Croix Central and Merrill volleyball teams waged an all-out battle to decide which team would earn the trip to the WIAA Division 2 state championships.

In the end, Merrill was able to hold off the Panthers, who were hoping to earn the first trip to the state tournament in program history.

Merrill won the match 3-1, with all four sets being well fought battles. Merrill won the opening set 25-23 and the second set 25-19. Central bounced back with its best effort of the night in the third set, winning 25-19.  The fourth set was a huge battle, but Merrill was able to previal, 25-21.

This is the first time Central's volleyball team has been defeated this season.
