Thursday outdoor sports appear likely to happen

The Somerset soccer team has been the only area team to get outdoors this season, playing a game two weeks ago against Menomonie. The Spartans will host New Richmond Thursday in a game that was scheduled Thursday morning.

All three area high schools will have spring sports teams competing on Thursday. For most of them, it will be the first time they've been able to compete (or practice) outdoors this spring.

The New Richmond and St. Croix Central track teams are scheduled to compete at the Menomonie Invitational. This meet will be held at the Menomonie Middle School, beginning at 4 p.m.

To take advantage of the conditions, the New Richmond and Somerset girls soccer teams hastily scheduled a game for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Somerset. A JV game will follow. This will be Somerset's second game, but the Tigers haven't even been able to practice outdoors yet this spring.

The New Richmond baseball team will head to the Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston to start its season. The Tigers will face Eau Claire North in a double-header, at 2:30 and 5 p.m. The Woodside Complex is an artificial turf field.

The New Richmond softball team will head to Ellsworth on Thursday to open its season. The Tigers haven't been outside. The location of the game has been shifted in Ellsworth, to the Brown Sport Complex at the Ellsworth Middle School.
