Tuesday's Results: New Richmond boys hockey, Somerset girls basketball win big

The New Richmond boys hockey team moved a step closer to another Middle Border Conference title and the Somerset girls basketball team couldn't miss a shot in a win over New Richmond to lead action in Tuesday night's games.

The New Richmond boys hockey team is now 6-0 in the MBC after an 8-1 win over the Eau Claire Regis co-op team at Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire. Seniors Nick Johnson and Eric Langer led the Tigers with two goals apiece. Dane Swanda, Noah Towberman, Garrett Thomas and Hayden Bradbury scored once for the Tigers.

The Somerset girls basketball team took the lead from the start and never trailed in a 76-58 win in New Richmond on Tuesday. All five Somerset starters scored in double figures, led by senior Anna Rybacki with 18 points. New Richmond was led by freshman Leah DeYoung with 12 points.

The New Richmond boys put in a strong effort, but came up just short at Ellsworth on Tuesday. The Tigers fell to the Panthers, 64-62. Auggie Altena led the Tigers with 15 points and Joey Kidder scored 14 points.

The Western Wisconsin Stars got goals from Sydney Hahn and Allie Stock, but lost the girls hockey game at Onalaska, 4-2.

The St. Croix Central boys basketball team played a sharp game at both ends of the court on Tuesday, defeating Somerset, 52-27.

The Somerset boys hockey team played its second overtime game in a week. This one, however, didn't have a happy ending, with Chippewa Falls getting the 4-3 overtime win.
