Tuesday's Results: New Richmond hoops wins, hockey gets tie against Superior

It was a busy Tuesday night for local sports, with important games being played in basketball and hockey, while the Middle Border Conference wrestling dual meet season was also completed.

In boys hockey, New Richmond and Superior skated to a 4-4 tie at the New Richmond Sports Center. The game was tied 4-4 after two periods and the score remained the same through the overtime. This game was viewed as the decider for the second seed in the sectional tournament bracket, so a tough decision will now have to be made when seeding is completed for the boys hockey sectional bracket this weekend.

In boys basketball, the New Richmond and Somerset boys teams both came up with wins. New Richmond went to St. Croix Central and came away with a 53-50 victory over the Panthers. This game went down to the final buzzer, with Central missing a three-point attempt at the final horn that would have sent the game to overtime. Senior Blake Getschel scored 15 points, 12 coming in the first half, to lead the Tigers. Cole Effertz scored 12 points and Joey Kidder finished with 10 points. St. Croix Central was led by Peyton Nogal with 13 points and Austin Kopacz with nine points.

The Somerset boys basketball team earned its first win of 2018 by winning at home against Baldwin-Woodville on Tuesday. The final score was 55-46 in the Spartans' favor. Sophomore Ty Madden led Somerset with 18 points.

In girls hockey, the Western Wisconsin Stars lost to Holy Angels Academy, 6-3.

In Middle Border Conference wrestling, New Richmond was defeated by Ellsworth and St. Croix Central was taken down by Osceola.
