MBC Scholar-Athlete Banquet scheduled for March 21

WIAA Deputy Director Wade Labecki will be the guest speaker for the 2018 WIAA Scholar-Athlete Banquet next Wednesday.

The annual Middle Border Conference Scholar-Athlete Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21.

The banquet will be held at St. Croix Central High School, beginning with the dinner at 6 p.m. The program will follow.

The guest speaker for the banquet will be WIAA Deputy Director Wade Labecki. Before joining the WIAA, Labecki served as athletic director, assistant administrator and transportation director at Baldwin-Woodville High School until 2009. He was the head football coach from 1987-2004 winning a State Championship in 1992, state runner-up in 1994 and five conference titles. He also was the head baseball coach from 1990-97 winning two conference championships and a State Tournament appearance in 1991.

The banquet is designed to recognize the top senior scholar-athlete, male and female, at each of the eight Middle Border Conference schools. Here are the students who will be honored this year:

New Richmond: Alli Preece and Blake Kretovics

Somerset: Anna Rybacki and Bennett Baillargeon

St. Croix Central: Olivia Moll and Collin Nelson

Amery: Alyssa Koehler and Ryan Van Blaricom

Baldwin-Woodville: Emily McNamara and Isaac Nilssen

Ellsworth: Morgan Kummer and Sam Stuhl

Osceola: Samantha Bents and Brett Carlson

Prescott: Katelyn Miller and Ty Sanford

The program is open to the public, beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m.
