WIAA Football: New Richmond, SCC, Somerset all get opening round home games

The New Richmond, St. Croix Central and Somerset football teams will all have opening round home games this Friday when the WIAA state football playoffs begin.

New Richmond will host La Crosse Logan in Division 3 action. St. Croix Central will host Adams-Friendship and Somerset will host Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in Division 4. All these games begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.

New Richmond takes a 5-4 record into the Division 3 tournament, with the Tigers riding a five-game winning streak. That recent success was enough to propel the Tigers up to the third seed in the Division 3 bracket. La Crosse Logan (4-5) is the sixth seed. Rice Lake received the top seed in the Division 3 bracket, with Ashland drawing the second seed.

Undefeated St. Croix Central received the top seed in Division 4, over another unbeaten team, Northwestern. St. Croix Central hosts Adams-Friendship, the eighth seed. Adams-Friendship had a 4-5 overall record, finishing 3-2 in the South Central Conference.

Somerset (5-4) is the fourth seed after tying for second place in the Middle Border Conference with a 5-2 MBC record. Somerset will host Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, the fifth seed. G-E-T was 6-3 overall, with a 4-1 record in the Coulee Conference.
