New Richmond boys golf team locks up Middle Border Conference title

The season long success of the New Richmond boys golf team carried into the 2018 Middle Border Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Tigers shot a 346 to win the 2018 MBC tournament by 10 strokes ahead of Amery at the New Richmond Golf Club.

With 76 points for the season, the Tigers easily were able to lock down the team championship. Amery ranked second in the team standings with 65 points, followed by St. Croix Central with 55 and Baldwin-Woodville with 53.

New Richmond junior Blake Peterson finished as the 2018 MBC Player of the Year. Peterson was amazingly consistent throughout the MBC season and that carried into Wednesday's tournament. He shot an 85 to finish in third place. Ellsworth's Zach Nugent and Osceola's Jacob Hall shot 83 to share medalist honors for Wednesday's tournament.

New Richmond had four players earn All-MBC honors. Peterson, Alex Nutzmann and Owen Covey were all part of the 10-man first team and Mike Benedict was an honorable mention selection. 

St. Croix Central had three players get All-MBC recognition. Trevor Woyda and Mason Bohatta were both first team players and Jacob Sanderson was an honorable mention player. The Panthers placed fifth in Wednesday's tournament, shooting a 382. 

Somerset finished seventh on Wednesday with a 407 and the Spartans ranked seventh in the final standings. The Spartans did not have an all-conference player this season.
