Many of the local youth hockey teams are competing to go to state tournaments.
Here is a listing of the local teams that have been reported as state tournament qualifiers thus far. .
The Western Wisconsin Stars are Region 6 champions. They advanced to WAHA state tournament with wins over Hudson 9-0 and Baldwin/River Falls 11-1. The state tournament will be held in Hayward March 3-4. The Stars are currently 22-4-1. They are currently ranked fifth in Youth Hockey Hub Now Rankings: Minnesota at the U15 A level, 2017-2018 season. They will be competing in the Maryann Robinson Girls Tournament this weekend.
New Richmond PeeWee B
The New Richmond PeeWee B hockey team is advancing to the state tournament hosted in Sheboygan. PeeWees lost their first game in River Falls 5-3 and went on to win their second chance vs Onalaska in double OT. They will play in the state tournament on March 10-11.
New Richmond Squirt C
The New Richmond Squirt C team will play in its state tournament in Janesville March 3-4. The Squirts advanced to state by winning playdown games against River Falls and Onalaska over the weekend. The Squirts were tested by River Falls, but managed to come away with a 4-3 victory. They locked up their berth in the state tournament with a 5-0 win over Onalaska.
New Richmond Bantam A
The New Richmond Bantam A team will play in the state tournament in Wisconsin Rapids on March 3-4. The Bantams opened playdowns on Saturday at Baldwin with an 8-0 win over River Falls. The Tigers won the Region 6 2A championship with a 5-3 win over Baldwin.
Somerset Squirt A
The Squirt A team beat Black River Falls 4-2 to advance to state. The Squirt A state tournament will be played at Lakeland March 3-4. Somerset's opening game is against Lakeland at 11:30 a.m. March 3.
Somerset Bantam A
The Bantam A team beat West Salem 6-3 to advance to state. The Bantam A state tournament will be played March 3-4 at Black River Falls. Somerset will play its first game, facing the host Black River Falls team, at 11:30 a.m. March 3.
Somerset Squirt B
The Squirt B team beat West Salem 10-0 to advance to state. The Squirt B state championships will be played at Stoughton March 3-4. Somerset will face Sauk Prairie in the opening game of the tournament at 9 a.m. March 3.
The New Richmond hockey boys Squirt A team locked in the Region 6 championship title this past weekend, advancing them to the state tournament in Elmbrook, on March 3-4. The team finished strong with a 6-2 win against Menomonie and a 5-1 victory over Baldwin. They will take on the Elmbrook Eagles Saturday March 3 at 11:30.a.m. The Squirts have a 17-1-2 record this winter.
