Area dance teams qualify for state

The New Richmond, Somerset and St. Croix Central dance teams have all qualified to compete at the state level.

The Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches will be holding the 2018 state championships this Saturday at the La Crosse Civic Center in La Crosse. The three local teams advanced to state with their performances at the WACPC regional meet held last Saturday at Wausau East High School.

The New Richmond dance team is advancing in the kick and pom competitions. The Tigers placed second in the Division 2 pom action and they placed fourth in the Division 1 kick competition.

New Richmond's Kaiya Fox and Maddie Kraft also qualified for state with their individual performances.

New Richmond coach Ali Sirek said the Tigers will be working to sharpen their kick technique and timing in preparation for the state meet.

The Somerset dance team has also qualified for state in two events. Somerset was a second place finisher in the kick competition and a fourth place finisher in the hip hop competition. Somerset competed in Division 2 in both events.

The St. Croix Central dance team has qualified for state with one routine. The Panthers reached state by placing fifth in the Division 4 pom competition at Wausau East.
