Eleven youth wrestlers will represent the three local school districts this weekend at the WWF Youth Folkstyle state wrestling championships at the Alliant Center in Madison.

St. Croix Central is advancing seven wrestlers to the state meet, while New Richmond and Somerset are both sending two. The wrestlers earned their tickets to state with their performances at a WWF regional tournament at River Falls on Saturday.

St. Croix Central

The Panthers are sending a well-proven group of wrestlers to the state meet. Of the seven Central wrestlers who qualified for the 2019 state meet, five of them have wrestled at state before.

That's led by Parker Shackleton, who is a five-time state qualifier. He is wrestling at 190 pounds in the 2004-05 division. Brock Swenson will be wrestling at 88 pounds in his fourth trip to the state meet in the 2006-07 division. Owen Wasley is a three-time state qualifier, this year competing at 110 pounds in the 2006-07 division. Trennon Holzer has qualified for state for the second time, as a 57-pounder in the 2008-09 division. Jake Swenson is also making his second trip to state, this time as a 69-pounder in the 2008-09 division.

Two Panthers are making their initial trip to state. Teague Holzer has qualified for the first time as a 90-pounder in the 2004-05 division. Maverick Kostrzak is making his first trip to state, competing at 97 pounds in the 2006-07 division.

New Richmond

Elisabeth Anderson and Ethan Derrick will be representing the New Richmond wrestling program at the state meet. Anderson is an eighth grader and Derrick is in second grade.

Anderson wrestles in the 2004-05 bracket. She is one of three girls who wrestle in the New Richmond Middle School program. Tiger middle school coach Chris LeMay said Anderson has a 12-4 record this season wrestling against boys. She was the only girl in the 152-pound class at the regional meet and was an automatic qualifier for state.

Derrick won the regional championship in the 72-pound class of the 2010-11 division. There were nine wrestlers in his weight class. He took first or second place in every tournament he competed in this season.

The Tigers had 15 wrestlers compete at the regional meet, where the top two in each weight class advance to state. Three Tigers took third place and four finished fourth in their class.

"The kids all wrestled really hard and showed that we are on the edge of having lots of success in the near future," said Adam Waidelich of the Tiger youth wrestling program. LeMay agreed, saying the healthy numbers in the youth program are having an effect. He is hoping 10 wrestlers will reach the middle school program as fifth graders next year.

Somerset

Maleah Lytle and Vinny Sindt will represent Somerset at Alliant Center on Saturday. Lytle was the champion of her weight class at Saturday's regional meet, with Sindt placing second in his class. Lytle is competing in the 105-pound class of the 2006-07 age division. Sindt is competing in the 85-pound bracket of the 2010-11 division.

Somerset had 11 wrestlers competing at the regional meet at River Falls on Saturday.
