The St. Croix County Board of Supervisors will have a vacancy effective Thursday, Nov. 15. District 6 supervisor Bob Long, who was re-elected to a second term in April, first announced in August that he will be moving out of the district, which makes him ineligible to continue holding his position. The board will accept applications and vote on a replacement to serve the remaining portion of the term, which goes through April 2020. County Clerk Cindy Campbell said applicants should send a letter of interest and qualifications to her or Board Chair Roger Larson.
The Minnesota-based arena rock tribute band Hairball prides itself on near-identical portrayals of icons like Alice Cooper. So when a white vocalist appeared wearing dark makeup to play Prince's "Purple Rain" to a crowd of 7,500 at the Minnesota State Fair recently, it was business as usual, said their manager Mike Findling. "They wear makeup on KISS. They wear makeup on Alice Cooper. They wear makeup on Prince," Findling said, adding that he didn't consider the powder vocalist Kris Vox wore to look black to be blackface. "How would we do it in any other way?"
Seated around a stretch of picnic tables spanning over 160 feet, more than 350 people shared potato salad and stories at Hudson's Lakefront Park Sunday.
Liz Bruch, 76, silently concentrates on her color marker masterpiece: a row of blue, yellow and pink flowers. Across the table, Celia Olson, 18, adds polka dots to her green peace sign. Smiley faces and hand-written messages like "On the inside we're all just pink" and "Say hi to the people around you" adorn the giant sheet of paper set to line the 160-foot-long stretch of connected tables for Sunday's "The Longer Table" event. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5, the Hudson Inclusion Alliance will host a community potluck at Lakefront Park, with over 150 expected attendees.
