All are invited and welcome to the 2017 Community Christmas Dinner sponsored by the New Richmond High School National Honor Society, Key Club and the New Richmond United Methodist Church. Enjoy live music and entertainment, great company, and a delicious ham dinner with all the fixings. The dinner will be served on Christmas Day at the United Methodist Church, 209 E. Second St., New Richmond. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and dinner is served at noon. For those unable to attend or need transportation, home delivery within the greater New Richmond area is available. Reservations are requested.
The Old Gem Theater presents the kid-centric hit musical "A Year With Frog and Toad" that won a Tony Award for Minnesota's Children's Theater Company. The show plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19 (sold out), 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, and 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22.
New Richmond Utilities is getting into the holiday spirit and giving back to the community. "Our locally owned, not-for-profit utility exists for the benefit of the community, and it's important for us to support our neighbors by giving back, especially during the holiday season." said Mike Darrow, city administrator and utility manager.
More than 300 people attend the Breakfast with Santa event each year. This year's eighth annual event is 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the New Richmond Area Centre. Enjoy a pancake breakfast, write a letter to Santa, decorate a reindeer cookie, take home reindeer food, make a reindeer ornament, and play bingo for a chance to win prizes! All children will have the opportunity to visit Santa. The Centre will also be holding a food drive for the Five Loaves Food Shelf and ask that you donate a nonperishable food item.

About three and a half years ago, Mona Flanum had a vision. She had heard about this food ministry called Ruby's Pantry, where trucks bring food to communities on a scheduled date once a month; that everyone in the community is welcome and encouraged to come get an abundance of surplus food. She enthusiastically approached Kathy Wettig with her idea, they recruited a few more people, and they were on their way to accomplish their goal. First Lutheran Church was excited to have the opportunity to sponsor this new ministry.

During National Family Caregivers Month, we recognize the impact of caregiving and honor the more than 15 million Americans caring for someone with Alzheimer's. In the past year, these caregivers provided an estimated 18.2 billion hours of care valued at over $230 billion.
Opera for the Young, a touring company that brings live, professional opera to elementary school audiences, recently performed an adaptation of Antonín Dvořák's famous opera, "Rusalka," or better known as "The Little Mermaid." The opera company performed for third-graders in the school district Oct. 27 in the Starr Elementary School gymnasium. The production was fully staged, sung in English and adapted especially for children. Students spent six weeks preparing music and learning about opera in their music classes.
