The New Richmond Middle School recently announced its third quarter Honor Roll and Honor Roll with Distinction for the 2016-2017 school year. Honor Roll with Distinction 8th Grade: Madelyn R. Gess, Barbara L. Kling, Piper A. Leeson, Kacie M. Malone, Kialie L. Malone, Benjamin G. Wacker, Addison J. Zinck, Megan M. Andersen, Aine G. Connolly, Tyler R. Dennis, Isabel E. Johnson, Chloe M. Jones, Allison R. Kolbeck, Avery N. Krumm, Gabrielle H. Langer, Brady A. Lease, Jada Y. Nygaard, Ashley M. Patten, Madelyn G. Strahlman, Sullivan T. Weiss.
Somerset Middle School held their spelling bee finals Friday, April 7. Winning first place was seventh-grader Emily Driscoll. Second place went to sixth-grader Libbie Churchich. The winning words were indulgent and outrageous.
A final pre-construction open house meeting relating to the North 4th Street project will be held on Wednesday, May 3, from 5:30–7 p.m. at the City Street Shop (1006 North Dakota Avenue, one block north of the intersection of North Dakota Avenue and North 4th Street). The purpose of the open house is to provide more details and answer any questions that residents have about the upcoming North 4th Street project, such as questions related to the construction schedule, removal of lawn decorations and landscaping, delivery of mail, etc.
The Library Book Sale is coming soon! Friday, May 5, 1-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. We will be taking donations for the sale starting this week. Please do not drop items in the back book drop for the sale. Donations need to be brought into the library. Mark the date and plan on getting some great books, DVDs and lots more for your personal library at home.
Spring cleaning is here and at Friday Memorial Library we want to help you clean up your library account. That's why we're teaming up with Family Fresh to bring you "Clean Up Your Fines," a paper and personal care item drive in exchange for library fines, May 1-13.
Eighth-grade students at the Somerset Middle School had the opportunity to hear a firsthand account of life in France during World War II from Holocaust survivor Louise Dillery. Students have been studying about World War II and the Holocaust in English and social studies classes this spring, and Mrs. Dillery agreed to come and meet with the students, relating to them the memories of the Nazis taking over her hometown of Paris and how life quickly changed, especially for Jews.
The New Richmond Empty Bowls event drew a large crowd of people who wanted to help raise money for the Happy Kids Backpack program, which works to reduce/eliminate food insecurity for school-aged children during school year weekends. The event was held at the New Richmond Middle School on April 20.
New Richmond Varsity Science Olympiad participated in the Wisconsin State Science Olympiad Tournament this past week. Out of the top 50 teams in the state, New Richmond was able to place 24th overall. Caleb Medchill and Aaron Tenner took the bronze medal in Game On, a computer science event. Other notable finishes include: • Kasee Meyer and Katey Eickhoff took seventh place in Write It, Do It • Emily Stoner and Jacob Medchill took 10th place in Material Science • Darian Garrett and Taylor Porter took 11th place in Anatomy and Physiology
Laine Moore is hard-working, respectful, and caring. She is thoughtful and is always willing to help out her classmates and teachers. Laine puts forth a tremendous amount of effort in all she does and she attempts to bring that quality out in those around her. Laine is a wonderful student and an asset to the fifth grade class.
New Richmond High School will hold its 2017 prom on Saturday, April 29, starting with the grand march at 2:30 p.m. The students will then head to Stillwater to have their prom on a riverboat, with students beginning to board at 8 p.m. The 2017 NRHS prom court includes Emma Carlson, Loni Bauer, Russ Hop, Kayla Price, Croix Hare, Sam Altena, Katie Dornbush and Tom McKinney.
