The City of New Richmond and New Richmond School District closed on the Commons/old middle school property on Monday, Oct. 16. "The closing marks a beginning of a new era. While the journey to the closing took some time, the partnership of the New Richmond School Board and City Council along with many, many community members and stakeholders was critical. Today was a celebration of that partnership," said City Administrator Mike Darrow. "In the short-term, this site will remain as green-space, however funding for a new community-based library is in motion.
Elementary students, staff and parents in Somerset and New Richmond took part in International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The ninth annual Crowning Achievements Special Needs Pageant will take place at Faith Community Church in New Richmond on Saturday, Nov. 4. The pageant is free and begins at 2 p.m. The doors open at 1 p.m. to view raffle items donated by individuals and businesses throughout the St. Croix Valley, Twin Cities and around the U.S. Raffle items include four Disney Parks Hopper passes and two round trip Southwest Airlines tickets. Raffle tickets are $1 each, but for every non perishable food item for the local food shelves - up to five items - you will receive a free raffle ticket.
St. Croix Central celebrated homecoming week with a series of events, including a pep rally, skit night and dance.
Somerset High School is inviting community members to be part of its Somerset High School Community Mentor Program for the 2017-2018 school year.
This last week our weekly story time took place at the Warren Park Building. The kids had a lot of fun playing with the bubble machine and spending some time out in the sun on the playground equipment after listening to stories about the ocean and the creatures that live in it. The libraries in St. Croix County have an interactive and wonderful fall bingo game for anyone who wants to participate. Starting Oct. 2, stop by your local library and pick up a bingo sheet and start playing. We will be using regular bingo rules — five spaces across, down or diagonal.
New Richmond celebrated homecoming week with several events, culminating in the Friday night football game and homecoming dance.
At our last public engagement session we got a lot of great ideas and feedback about the new library. We heard about how important gathering spaces are, how to define the outdoor space, and what would make the library a destination for you. Now we invite you to our second public input session where you will be able to see how MSR and the Library Planning Committee have used these ideas to help develop a concept around our guiding principles.
September has been a very busy month for us here at the Hammond Community Library. Highlights of the month include story-times with special guest appearances, Little's book club, coloring night, Cozy Book Club meeting, author visits, etc. Starting Oct. 1, make sure to visit a library to pick up your Library Hop Bingo Card. See if you can get a library bingo or even a blackout. You can travel from library to library to help you get your BINGO/Blackout in St. Croix County. Have fun this fall as you hop from library to library!
Hillside, Paperjack, and Starr Elementary Schools, in partnership with Healthier Together — Pierce and St. Croix County Physical Activity Task Force will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 4, with a rain date of Oct. 6. Approximately 500 students from our three elementary schools will be walking to school on Oct. 4, along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
